A poll on open beta new features has been posted to dw_meta. It's a long poll, but they are looking for more responses, so go on over and take it, if you wish to help them.

As always, I have my thoughts on all of this. The open beta feature I found most exciting from a user perspective was Google Analytics. The other features I find fascinating from a technical perspective, but I'm not sure I will personally get much mileage out of.

Friends split into access and subscribe: Fairly useful. I think we have yet to see the full implications of this.

Journal import, including comments and icons: Very cool from a tech perspective, not personall using.

Built in cross posting: Very cool, but probably not using very much.

No ads: I'm in the minority, and am pretty indifferent to ads

Invite codes: This is more of a load control/spam blocker, right?

Better integration with OpenID: This is a really great feature, and I don't see why LJ was so indifferent to poor old openID.

Revamped navigation strip: The nav strip is MUCH more useful now that they put the inbox in! Hurray! I hope they get rid of the ugly grey buttons and offer stripped down options as well.

As for the planned features:

Main/alternate account system: This is very nifty, but I don't think I'll be using it myself.

Draft and scheduled posts: Great feature, and one I wish they would do earlier.

Redesigned photo hosting: I wonder if this couldn't be done using Oauth or openID or something interfacing with another photohost? Because what is useful about this is not the gallery itself, but the permissions associated with it.

Complete memories overhaul: Now THIS is useful. This is the #1 feature, IMHO.

User to user classified system: Not sure what to think about this. This seems like something that has little precedent on LJ and isn't something that is done on many social networking services, and has potential for some unpleasantness and potential liabilities. In other words, Craigslist type negative stuff, like cases of fraud.

Archive pages: Great feature

Killfiles: Nifty, and v. interesting. I don't know if I'll use it, but I wonder what the effects would be. Maybe I'll post to dw_meta about it.

Address book: This would be quite useful.

Community chatrooms in DWTalk: This could be a useful feature, especially if it gives us way to send invites or "chat coming in 10 min!" notices.

Revamped memories is one I'm really looking forward to as well. (I am hopeful that tags might get a rehaul at some point, too...)

I think the biggest change I would like is for it to be like delicious, where X+Y gets you all entries that have both X and Y. Right now you can type in X+Y but all it gets you is all X entries and all Y entries (in other words, pretty useless).

It would also be neat to see other users' entries tagged with the same tags, but that's less of a priority for me. I really wish librarything's tags worked like delicious, too, because it annoys me to have to have books, 2009, and 2009 books, for example. If I could search books+2009, I would have no need of that extra 2009 books category at all.

I'd like that too but considering all the "omg stalking!" crap about Google Analytics and the Twitter wank on the discuss ML, I have a feeling that suggestion would go over with the user crowd here like a fart in church.

I lumped those issues together because they're indicative of a certain attitude, namely that "all people need to blog the way I'd like to see them blog, so I want to restrict their activities."

You've forgotten that this is Fandom that DW is dealing with here. The group with the people who freak out when people they don't know link to publically available fanfiction on delicious and deign to tag it with something that the writer doesn't agree with.
