Yahoo to shut down Delicious?

Rumor has it that Yahoo may be shutting down Delicious. It's not clear what form this shut-down might take, assuming the rumor is true.

I hear there are ways you can export your bookmarks, at least? I think in the comments of the techcrunch posts there are mentions of alternatives, also.

I wonder if delicious.com made a profit, however. The major competing services seem to be all paid ones.

Yeah, I don't care too much about my fic recs and reviews, because those are all on my journal, too. But I really need something like that for my transfic master list, because it's way too big for me to organise myself. So I will be looking around for another site, I guess.

Ughhh. The worst part is that there doesn't appear to be One True Replacement popping up yet - and because of this, network splitting is inevitable.

The one people seem to be reccing the most is pinboard.in, but that one appears to be a paid service. Diigo is also paid.

Seems there's also google bookmarks.

It's as if they want me to be doing everything via google, because I don't think I know any decent free alternatives...

Hmm, actually it seems that Diigo is free, although they also have paid plans.

There is a free version of Diigo. However, I've been waiting 15-20 minutes for my import (from XML, not via Delicious API) to actually show up, and I'm not entirely convinced it will.

All of these sites are getting swamped, I hear, because of the leak.

Yahoo! has been circling the drain for many years now. I just hope flickr survives, I've got a paid account there since forever and renewed it for two years last month Ò_ó

Yeah, Yahoo and AOL. I think since Flickr has revenue it will eventually survive.

I thought that might be the case. Well, I have XML backups of both my Delicious accounts, so I can afford to be patient.

I was cautious when Yahoo bought them, and the lack of development is more than annoying (my favourite feature is the blog posting, that's been "experimental" for two+ years).

I don't rally use it for anything exept link posting, it's very good for that if you get setup, and it only started working on DW last week, that'll be really annoying to lose having got it setup again.

Hopefully, someone else will replicate, and it is something I'd pay for if the product were good enough I think.

Or, of course, we could integrate the basic idea into Memories when that's completely redone here.

There's a definite market gap for that sort of thing though, many many people are talking about the loss of the daily blog post as their main worry (that's my main use for it), others the social side, etc.

I haven't seen another service that comes close to it, but many similar ideas. I guess why replicate when you can be distinctive, although I am surprised there isn't an OS competitor, there seems to be for evertyghin else.
