So, the news post on the Facebook/Twitter integration has hit over 900010,000 comments. In any case, probably any substantive response will be after Labor Day. (There is no way of knowing what the decision making process or hierarchy is like inside of LJ, which is why I'm disinclined to believe some of the wilder conspiracy theories going around; however, one thing that seems to be clear is that there are quite a few levels of hierarchy and bureaucracy in there. No longer do the decision-makers communicate directly with users, and public statements take a long time to compile. This increases user dissatisfaction, IMHO. )

Further notes:
I'm wondering if the other changes are going to be widely used by users. Will many people use the Facebook login? Will it really help bring more traffic to LJ? I've heard about Myspace's FB integration, and am wondering whether it'll arrest or hasten their rapid decline.

Also, IAWTC: Here. Basically, my opinion is, whatever you think of this latest thing at LJ, I am 99% sure in the future that something like this is going to happen and LJ will handle it in the same way. /shrug

I'm just worried that the OMGFREAKOUT over sending notifications of new LJ entries over to Twitter's going to totally kill any chance of seeing that feature come to DW. I'm not interested in tweeting my comments but I definitely want to automatically tell Twitter I've posted here, like I do when I post to Tumblr or WordPress or Posterous or even SBNation.

Anything that has an RSS feed can be fed to twitter, anyway.

It's not going to, the bugs are still there, I believe some of them are still assigned, I'm still working on share this buttons, etc.

But importantly, if DW does it, it'll respect privacy settings, my buttons won't display on locked entries, took me awhile to figure out how to code that, but I figured doing so was important, that was ages ago.

You can use Twitterfeed or similar (I do)m but they all seem to be buggy and flawed, I want something direct. It'll happen, but not based off the LJ code, beyond my ken, but I'm told it's really badly done in the backend as well.

I'm expecting people to use the LJ to FB Connect stuff - I certainly am. I've got commenting firmly turned off though. :-)

I don't have a huge amount of crossover between LJ people and FB people, so no, I haven't seen it being used yet. OTOH, it's also only been 6 days, and most of my LJ people don't post that often and may not even be following LJ news to know the feature exists. :-)

I put in a support request about the total disappearance of the login tickybox that allows one to log in and comment at the same time, which seems to have disappeared. It was the icing of extreme irritation on top of everything else for me, although maybe I was the only person who ever used it. It seems like such a bizarre choice to drop it, although maybe it was accidental.

I recall seeing code that looked relevant to that disappearance in the changelog thing, so I'm guessing it was deliberate, though of course I've no idea of the business logic leading to that.

Is it weird that the annoyance of that, perhaps more than anything else, is probably going to be my "quit LJ for good" dealbreaker? Gosh. It's such a useful feature, and I fail to see how removing it does ANYTHING other than irritate people who used it.

Sheesh.

I used to use it at work when I didn't think that Turbo the IT guy who could have remoted in at any time really needed the chance of accidentally seeing an entry about how he was totally hot.
