LJ updates Rich Text Update Page, hints of v. 84 to come

Release 83 is now live, which is mostly updates to the Rich Text update page. There seem to be a lot of bugs associated with this, however.

Also, there are some hints about what will be released in v. 84, which is scheduled for early September. Also, the Scrapbook II code has been uploaded, but due to some technical issues, beta testing hasn't started yet.

As far as I can figure out via Google Translate (anyone who can speak Russian, please help?) in v. 84 there will be:

Improved calculation of ratings (I think this is an RU-side feature only?) which will be better at calculating which things are truly popular.
Ability to create pending records for journals and comms (Is this a drafts feature? Might be http://changelog.livejournal.com/11284213.html or http://changelog.livejournal.com/11284531.html)
Some kind of self-promotion thing (I think this has been mentioned in changelog)
Remaking the comments form (I think this is what it's saying?)
m.livejournal.com can resize images on the fly
Something about SMS and personal messages/notifications

Hrm, it might be a drafts feature depending on how it's implemented, but it looks mainly like a scheduled posts feature! Ie, tell the system to post it at a given time. Drafts might be a part of it, though, if you have the option to not put in a scheduled time and just keep it in limbo until you are ready.

Ah, I see. I wonder how they are going to do the front end management. So it might be like queueing too? I guess we'll see in another month.

Scrapbook II was available for a few days but was horribly buggy. I only managed to upload three images and never got to use any of the features. I liked what I saw and am reserving comment on what I didn't until it's officially up for testing.

Ah, thanks for the info. I wonder how long it'll take for it to get through beta.

One really helpful thing about Google Translate, I find, is that if you hover over a word/phrase in the translated text and click, you get a list of alternative translations, which can really help to improve the quality of the translation (although some translations may be too literal). For example, the private message thing says that MTS (a Russian mobile operator) currently allows you to receive notifications of new private messages via SMS, and they're working on allowing people to read and respond to them via SMS too.

(At least, I believe that's what it says. I could still be wrong, of course.)

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea what MTS was, so I couldn't really make head or tail of it. (I don't use the SMS feature on LJ so I don't really know too much about the current SMS capabilities)

I had no idea either before I Googled it before I made the reply :D

Of course, since it's a Russian operator, it's doubtful that it would be offered to people outside Russia.
