"Yahoo! actually went on the offensive and claimed they weren’t going to kill Delicious but sell it, which makes me laugh, because no such thing could be true – the most glaring reason being that Yahoo’s authentication system infests every one of their properties, and a lot of people on Delicious are using Yahoo IDs. Another is that Yahoo are incompetent assholes. Back in January of 2009, Archive Team announced that Yahoo! was not to be trusted. Someone from Yahoo! showed up and said we were wrong. I’m having this image he was fired, as was the entire staff of Delicious. Tell me how you intend to transition a site when you fire everyone first. You don’t. A place buying it would be buying the name and maybe the right to use the software. Maybe. Who would want that?"

Let's hope this doesn't happen. However, there still seems to be no news of any buyers for Delicious...

Thanks for linking that post. I've been meaning to back up my Delicious accounts, but that was enough if a kick in the pants for me to get up and do it.

I'm worried about it. I won't believe them until it's safely elsewhere, intact.

There was someone who used to work at Delicious saying this earlier on as well.

It was clear to me that they did intend to close it down, they just retracted because of the uproar. So maybe they'll keep it going for a while longer, but the company is in so much trouble in the long term that even if they weren't trying to get rid of it, I wouldn't consider it a permanent solution at this point :P (same goes for Flickr).

The thing that gets me is, what kind of purpose is there to NOT admitting that you're just going to shut it down, if that's really what's going to end up happening anyway?

I am keeping my ears to the ground for workable, transitionable solutions that are doable either NOW, or can be gotten to the point of importing one's Delicious bookmarks before the site inevitably goes away. I'm not sure even this volume of uproar has bought us more than three months - at best, a long, slow shutdown like Geocities, but I don't particularly trust Yahoo right now.

In the meantime, I'm still saving *to* Delicious because it's the tool with the best setup, and just running constant backups.
