Huh, why is LJ so obsessed about promoting that Writer's Block/Question of the Day thing? Do people really like it that much?

Two reasons off the top of my head:

* Promoting QOTD helps promote people to post. More posting means more content means healthier reading and increased activity for users and more pageviews with ads on them.
* QOTD is one of the things that sponsors can take over. Promoting it helps increase the value of those sponsorships.

More posting means more content means healthier reading and increased activity for users and more pageviews with ads on them and a higher "active users" number to show the advertisers.

(Fixed that for you.)

Probably not.

It's not cynical if you're just repeating things you heard in meetings. :)
