So thanks to Mark, I have a Google Wave account. Unfortunately... yeah, it is much less useful if you don't know a lot of people using it. Also, when I view big waves, it really stalls out for some reason. I'm not sure if it's me, or a problem with Wave itself. Once I'm able to send invites, I'll try to send some to people I know, so we can use it together. It really does seem to be a very good tool for working on a document together or annotating, so I foresee some use out of it.

Also, on Dreamwidth, site-wide search is being worked on, and may appear soon. What a useful feature! How often have we wished we could have this on LJ? I wonder how this will change the way people use the site?

I've had the same issue with Google Wave. I feel positive about its future usefulness, though!

I think site-wide search is absolutely going to revolutionize the way we use the site. Imagine fandom-wide discussions like RaceFail when you have site search... it'll make the job of link aggregators immensely easier, and it'll allow people to check up on link aggregators in a way that it's very hard to do now, to make sure everyone gets all sides of the story. (No, I haven't been following kerfuffling about link aggregation bias, why do you ask? LOL.)

So. So. Jealous. I've been coveting Google Wave for a while now, if only because I think it could be super useful for academic collaboration.

Thanks, that just reminded me to turn off my blog to searches. I thought I had done that previously, but it looks like I was wrong.

I suspect people might want to establish a new social rule whereby search-off is equivalent to "no randoms".

I'm fine with randoms. Specific ego-searching ballplayers, on the other hand...not so random. >>

Oh hey, not sure if it comes with all accounts, but have you found the "Invite others to Google Wave" wave, yet? It's one of the waves that came with my account, and had eight nominations/invites. (The people I nominated got their accounts within 24 hours, much faster than I thought)

Eyah, I guess not :/ I wonder if it is a matter of how you were invited? I suspect that if you got invited by signing up to Google directly, you get more invites, but if you got invited by someone who was invited, you don't get invites, to limit the number of invites that go out?
