I think it's domain aliasing, been around a while.

Huh, that one seems to have been rejected though. They changed their minds?

Anyway better domain aliasing would be a great idea. I know some people who were disappointed that the domain aliasing isn't persistent like it is w/ Tumblr or Wordpress.com.

I've been looking at the changelog entry which contains the core of the logic (http://community.livejournal.com/changelog/7342798.html), and it looks like an implementation of that suggestion, yeah.

It looks like a way for paid users to give their friends aliases, and see that displayed next to that friend's ljuser tag.
