Someone wonders about incentives for paid accounts at DW. I have to say, s/he is I think off the mark in discounting icons as a motivation. Very few users have a problem with tags; it's comms that had problems with the tag limits, IIRC. But a vast number of people clamor for more and more icons.

Now, I'm personally in the minority population of "doesn't care about icons." Styles are also not personally important to me, as long as there are a few that are acceptable to me. (Most important feature: Previous 20 is at the bottom of the page)

What paid features do interest me? Well, polls, and also the google analytics feature. One reason I tried out Tumblr is that it allowed Google Analytics. However, I'm not sure enough people will read my blog for it to be worth it.

I don't particularly care about icons either, but I definitely do care about style customization. It was my major incentive for a paid account on LJ, though polls and comment editing were added perks. Oh, and now the pingback feature. Do you know if DW is planning on implementing it? I hope so...I bet they'll do a much better job than LJ if they did.

Google Analytics is also worth getting a paid account for, I agree. I heard DW was going to be better about allowing Javascript; I hope so because I would really like to have widgets in the sidebar.
