Yeah, they did drop the ball. Although I wonder nowadays how much demand there is for LJ-lite, also, because of the myriad types of new blogging softwares which have sprung up. There seem to be many ways to use LJ, but I'm not really clear which are the most popular and most numerically important to the userbase.
