More on LJ.ru
Monday, May 11th, 2009 07:06 amAnother difference between LJ.ru and English language LJ is the presence of a community directory. I wonder what would happen if such a thing was tried on English language LJ? Probably there would be a lot of controversy over comms which contain or are primarily centered around sexually explicit material. There might also be controversy over people dissatisfied with the categorization of their comm. I actually think this is a good idea (Have no idea how it works on LJ.ru, but ideally only the maintainer would be able to submit their comm to the community index). The directory is kind of clunky to use, and searching by interest is inefficient in some ways. LJ style interests are more like tags, but sometimes in search, categories are more efficient.
This page describes the various sections of the portal they use. The page claims that in the future users will be able to search through comments and other types of searches. Wonder if that feature will be there for English language LJ? IMHO, also the Lanzelot site scheme is nicer than the current default on LJ.
