you know how I feel about "requirements" but it's true that people do tend to rec their friends...and you do make a point about amateur reviewers, which I'm not going to equate to unpaid reviews by professional writers. People do expect pros to talk about pros that they're friends with. I tend to distrust "fangirlism" or unadulterated squee in amateur reviewing. Either they're getting paid in review copies or attention by the creators and/or there's just not enough of a discerning taste in literature.
