Some interesting bits:

Dreamwidth tried advertising using Google Adwords, but it didn't turn out very well, possibly because of the lack of a good site tour. The site tour would need to be especially good, I think, because the people who come in via Adwords may be totally unfamiliar with LJ.

I wonder what is behind the drastic increase in monthly posts, whereas the amount of active users has stayed stable or even declined.

In other news, an article on the attacks on LJ.

Google translate link to Dronov's journal. He says they have purchased new equipment which should help them withstand future DDoS attacks.

Google translate link to Gazeta.ru article, in which it is estimated that the attack cost $15,000; it is estimated by outside sources that it cost LJ $10,000 in ad revenue. No idea on how accurate this really is.

My guess is a bunch of people who had accounts just to comment on journals also started crossposting from DW to LJ.

Hmm, Im actually wondering whether this has to do with the 'actiive' counter being stuck at 24,000-something once...

I actually got my first of them on reading page today. Plenty on LJ with people whinging but obviously clueless (the number of informed friends I have that care about their LJ but have no clue where to look for news is depressing), but none before on DW. OK, one that was crowing about it, but...

Utterly confused, why would the Kremlin try to take down the blog host still used by the guy in charge at the Kremlin? [livejournal.com profile] blog_medvedev is still active.
